Bi-Xenon headlights with headlight washers
Have you seen this kind of headlights again. These headlights are BI-Xenon headlights and come with headlight washers as well (see attachment with red arrows). I saw them on a car that Memminger has built and today asked him about the cost. They look and work exceptionally well. Memminger in Germany is extremely famous for his 1303 products. I will keep you posted.

Not sure if you've ever owned a car with headlight washers, but they're more of a PIA then they're worth.
VERY useful in winter where you get the road dirt painting the front of your car constantly, but I somehow suspect most GL drivers aren't running their cars in winter! Outside of winter they've always been a pain...nothing is more effective in wrecking a nice wash/wax job then my headlight washers. -Dave

here's a quote off their website that I google translated from german:
"Delivery: - Altered fenders (because of greater light pot) - Headlamp washers - Headlight LWR - Larger tank 6 ltr. - Electronics package - Bi-Xenon headlights Conversion initially only in Reichertshofen possible - of course with TÜV certification. ABS in the preparation ABS for 1302/1303 and a short front body (Mexico) 4-piston front disc brake and rear caliper." So they are not only introducing HID lamps but ABS also. That would be interesting to see/read more about.

Hi
I bought headlight washer like those from Pelican parts for my new 1303 # 911-628-071-01-01C-M100 I planned to have mine only activate when the headlights were turned on and the windscreen washers used, that's how they worked on my old Audi. TUV would most likely insist that headlight washers be fitted with Xenons. Steve

I must disagree with you Dave about headlamp washers (admittedly all are original equipment):
The basic condition over here relates to winter driving when road salt is mixed with water/damp conditions '84 Alfa Romeo GTV6 - Work well on standard output headlamp bulbs but not when the lamps were uprated to 130W & 100W. Basicaly at those wattages the crud baked on and the washers were ineffectual. Modern +80% bulbs might solve that problem when I get around to restoring the vehicle. '91 Vauxhall Senator - Work reasonably well coupled to headlamp wipers. '94 Merc 500E - Excellent even when the headlamp wipers don't work! '01 Merc E Class - Brilliant high pressure washers giving a noticable improvement in illumination even when you think the headlamps are not dirty. (Its the only thing that works on the bloody car though!) As regards when you use the car, I have the general philosophy that cars are there to be driven, whatever the conditions even if they are a classic. My 500E is a testament to that. It is used in all weathers and at all times of the year having now racked up 270,000mls+ of which I have been responsible for 170,000mls in the last 9 years. I have been toying with the idea of headlamp washers on the '03 super especially as I now have the washer fluid capacity but have not designed the system. Clive |

Quote:
If the car is a sunny day / summer vehicle then they are more likely to end up a frustration over a useful feature. It's that whole spraying down a clean car thing. I've had headlight washers on my Audi's for years and loved them in the winter, hated them in the summer. I drive with headlights on all the time, and inevitably end up spraying down a clean car in error. But yes, it boils down to whether or not the car will be driven in roadsalt-like conditions. Mind you, I the TUV requirement is rather interesting as well. -Dave
