Question single wiper conversion

I have mounted a wiper motor that was taken out of a scricco in the center of my 1303 and wondering what type of wiper I should use? If anyone has already preformed this conversion pictures or other methods would be appreciated.
Thank you

Thumbs up

I was looking for info on this mod too. If you can, could you write a small article on how you did it, with pictures ? We could host it in the tech article section of the main site @ www.germanlook.com

Of course, you will get full credit.

Thanks and welcome to the site !

Sandeep

I've seen the single wiper conversion done on a superbeetle from Germany.

The feature article said that the guy used a stock beetle wiper motor and arm, the linkage was from a Scirocco and the blade is a rear blade from a MkII Golf.

There are videos of this car on the Volksworld webpage, it's a silver GL with gold painted three piece BBS wheels.

The article is in the April 1997 Volksworld magazine.

Digging old posts...again

A Scirocco windshield wiper motor is not that easy to find...Does any other VW share the same part? Or which would be the next best alternative??

Audi made a single wiper on some of their models. I am not that familiar with Audi so I cannot be more specific.

I've got a scirocco wiper that I modified to fit my mk2 gli that is now going into the 1303 that I'm building. If your motor is toast or if you simply want a better motor, a mk3 motor bolts right up to the mk1 scirocco unit. I have yet to sit the whole thing in my 1303, but with this thread I may check it out this afternoon and post up some pics for everyone. In stock form, it doesn't offer a full rubber to rubber sweep on the jetta, but with about 10 minutes worth of cutting/welding you can fix that no prob. If you're cool with how much sweep the stock mk1 scirocco offers but can't find one, I can guide you in modifying a front mk3 unit to become a single wiper. I've built one of those too.

ok, perfect time to pull this thing out of my mk2...

Here's the assy with the mk3 motor.

Here is the assy flipped over and the problem that will require you to drill your center hole a touch lower than the stock positions. the arm with the arrow pointing toward it needs more room to operate...

Here the assy is sitting in the stck location with that arm in the 12oclock position (where it hits the firewall and at it's outermost position). As you can see, it's close enough that putting that hole slightly lower would remedy the situation.

Clear as mud?

Since I've got it out now, I'll drill the hole tonight or tomorrow and get it all mounted up.

Hi

Im thinking of doing this as well. We didnt get Scirocco down here so I will do what a friend did with his Mk 1 golf, he just moved his stock wiper motor to the middle and extended a linkage to give it the extra travel to cover the whole screen, this also speeds things up as well.

Of course you all realize, that if these cars came with single wipers we would be converting to dual wipers.

hehe, I'm going with THREE wipers on the front!

Should I tell everyone now that I'm working on a rear wiper?

The rear wiper from a mkII golf works perfectly on a 1303. I made new mounts for the scricco motor and it works awesome.

I had a mkII jetta a while ago that i converted to single wiper. If you extend the linkage arm coming off the motor by 10mm it will give you full windscreen coverage.

That's funny. I saw an MGB for sale in Newport News, Va., today and seeing its front three had me visualizing the same on the 1303 I don't yet have.
