later 944 sway bars on earlier car?

Looking at the rear sway diameters, it looks like one from the later 944 is a better match for my heavy type 3.
Can't use the later arms and all because they are too wide to fit under my fenders...
Will the later rear sway bar fit on a car with the early steel arms?
Or do the later cars have wider/different mounting or something??

The rear sway-bar end-mounting points are on the spring plate, and that's in the same position, no matter what (late/early) car.
So yes, the sway bar should fit under a car with steel arms. (someone correct me if I'm wrong :P )
