Carb Rebuild

I'm a beetle newbie.
Need a dummies guide to carburator rebuild. I have a stock 1973 Brazilian 1500 beetle with a Solex 30.

The carb floods frequently. Gasoline drips onto the engine and the engine stalls. After about 1/2 hour of dripping. It restarts like nothing ever happened.

I've played around with plenty of engines but never dealt with carburators. Where shall I begin?

Thanks,
Al

You can do it!

It sounds like the float or float bowl metering valve is to blame. The valve is included in a rebuild kit.

Once you break open the carb you will see it is a piece of cake. Soak it in carb cleaner and then blow out with compressed air. Then reassemble... The tough part is tuning it again.
