Backfiring at carbs
When I installed the 48idfs when new, idle was ok, but after a few days of driving, the carbs are backfiring! Could the idle jet be too small as I've maxed out on the present idle jet. Help?

Silverbullet,
Try this website, it might help. I had the same problem too. My friend Steve at Wolfgang Int. helped me out over the phone. Make sure the your linkage is set right after syncro is done. I know that every engine is different, Like mine is a 2.4ltr, 175hp and I'm tunned for Germany. Good luck Chris AircooledVWAddiction.com- (Weber IDF tuning tutorial) |

silver,
Is it backfiring throush the carbs? If so I would say your mixture is to lean. If it backfires through the exhaust then your mixture it to rich. try that and see what you get. mike |

Thanks Mike, I've tried to make rich the idle jet as backfire when idle, but still there, I'll try larger jets.

Probably your flaps are a bit too much open. Close them a bit and open the pass by screws at the side of idle screws. About 1/2 turn to open should make a differens. Also the carbs sync have too be well done. Use air flow meters to do it.
