transmission ???
Ok So I'm getting really to put in my 901 to a T1 motor
can I use the same cluch and flywheel or will I have to upgrade?? also I'm having a super hard time getting the Old Seased andStripped Cv bolts out any tricks? Sorry Chris, i don't know. I'm sure it's been covered before in another thread. Ask Bryan (CLKWRK), he's running a 901 bolted to a T1. He'll know.
I remember pulling my CV's for the first time. Blood, sweat, and tears. What a pain. Make sure you hammer the socket in before trying to unscrew. Some of mine were hex, others torx bolts. Pete

The T1 ring gear sits too far in for the starter to catch
I cut the face where the starter sits down about 5mm or so, then I used a semi auto (or 911) starter. This let me use a T1 flywheel, otherwise a 356 flywheel should work. I also had to adapt the T1 clutch bearing to fit the 901 clutch release lever Bry

Hey Bry
what did you use to cut the the Starter face? just a Grinder? also my cluch bearing and Lever is Done Sandeep did that or is it just easier to buy a 356 Flywheel and what Size? what year 911 Starter? thanks. Chris. |

I used a zip disk to bring the starter face on the transmission down but I suppose you can bring down the starter with the same result
I am not sure about the 356 flywheel as I went the T1 flywheel route, theres some good info on that here: http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewto...&highlight=914 Bry

on this site the guy talks aobut this set up
"Specificaly, it will bolt right into your 901 transmission. However, you will need some longer studs on the engine case in order for them to extend far enough into the Porsche tranny's bell housing so you can thread the nuts on. All you need to do is use your Superbeetle 12v flywheel but use a Porsche style diaphram assembly with the clutch. A Heavy Duty 200 mm friction disk is what I used with the Porsche Style diaphram assembly. Now the only thing you need to consider is that the Porsche Starter will only engage into the Superbeetle Flywheel teeth approximately one third of the way since the VW flywheel does not stick out as far as the Porsche 912 Flywheel. Many say that this will wear out your Flywheel's starter teeth prematurely and others told me that they used it like that without problems. My soloution was to remove the starter motor and then remove the rear aluminium housing off the starter that includes the starters mounting flange.
