WBX 2.1L fuelinjection on a 2L type-4?
Is it doable and if it, is it better that the stock type-4 fuel injection?
I have this -79 fuelinjected 2.0L Type-4 (baywindow engine) and was concidering to use the fuelinjection system from a WBX instead. |

Hi
The manifold design on a WBX is nothing like a Type 4, the WBX inlet ports are basically the same as Type 1 motor only the ports are a little bigger. Steve

Yes, well that much I allready knew..
Basically, what I was going to use was the injectors and all the equipment around them and fit them to the Type-4 manifolds etc.. |

I have now built 2 aircooled engines with wbx injection works well if you combine parts one engine was turbocharged and although the Fuel injection could not really cope well it worked enough to give 180 hp

Could you advise me on what tempsensors etc. you have used for your engines? Just the stock typ-4 sensors or something else? Partsnumbers etc. would be great. |

This is what have happened since september last year:
In December I finally got the cooling tin mounted so I could start fitting the Wasserboxer fuelinjection plenum to the manifolds. Had to bend the manifold tubes about an inch on the righthandside of the engine backwards(the ones closest to the camera). Otherwise the plenum would have sat a bit twisted and also to clear the intake rubber from AMM to the throttlebody. The manifolds to the left bent, and the plenum on its correct place. |

January this year:
Welded the mounts that bolts the WBX plenum to the type-4 case. And test fitted WBX injectors I have. |

In the mid January I started working on the exhaust.
Bought a pile of stainless steel 90 degree tubebends. 40mm OD and 37mm ID. Had earlier bought a set of lasercut flanges: The started to make my own exhaust. Finding shorter exhaust studs was not the easiest task... They were M9 in the heads and M8 at the flanges... So my Brother make me a set. Here the first part of the exhaust is finished in mid February. As you see in the last picture I also had plans on teststarting the engine with carbs first as I had a set of Type-3 carbs laying around. |

I am interested in your fuel injection too. Keep up the good work and the pics coming too. Have u thought of having holes drilled in those single carb intakes for the injector??

Hi om one engine I adapted the water temp sensor to the same place as the thermostat but it melted so I just commected the two wires to each other and it worked fine. Since this is basically a variable resistor which tels the computer to enrich when the engine is cold I am sure you could get a variable resistor and dash mount it for a kind of manual choke (South Africa doesnt need a choke much) You can also adjust the rev limit by replacing one part in the brain searc a bit on the net) My memory loses me on this one
I have found it to work well and have also thought of installing the temp sensor in a location where it would be in contact with oil as the sensing part is copper it wont melt Armand
