TYPE 4 report...
Well I just got a 2.0 914 type 4 "GA" code with a new DTM stage 3 kit and kennedy flywheel. The engine is in need of a little freshening up. There are no cross hatches left on the inside of the cylinders so I figure it is time for an overbore to 96mm. I will probably replace the cam since the valves were tight and there is probably some wear on the lobes. I want to rebuild it on a reasonable budget, up to $1500.... What are some options for me to consider while parts shopping for my engine...

very cool on that deal. leaves you more cash for the upgrades.
so is the $1500 more or including that deal? you will have $350-$1000 in exhaust depending on which way you go. is it FI or carbs? some good options there. GO CERAMIC LIFTERS. $400 or so there.

$1,500 more just to rebuild the engine not including exhaust or carbs. All I got was a longblock that was FI, but all that was removed. The Ceramic lifters are a no brainer after seeing all the research, and what can happen with cheap lifters. I checked the heads and there were no cracks between the valves.

Would that work with a DTM. More custom work. I was kinda leaning toward some dual Dells... :agree: Greneade???

Have Jake pick the cam and send the heads to Ham Inc. Search for a set of 40 Dells. Send the parts to Jake for bal. and build a screaming 2056. :agree:

Does HAM INC have a website so I can check on some prices. What can I expect to pay for the head labor. I was just going to de-carbonize the heads and lap the valves into the seats to clean everything up. Do I need bigger valves? Do I need porting?
I will bring my crank + rods + flywheel to Taccoa and Give them to Jake there to save on shipping. :agree:

my 2320 has 42 x 36 valves, so Im sure you can keep stock valves with a 2056. head labour for keeping stock valves should be around $200 per head I would think.

Probably replace the valves, seats, and guides.
HAM will likely go further than that, and it may cost more than $200. He'll time-cert the plug bosses, replace all the studs including S/S exhaust studs, mabye upgrade the valves, and springs too depending on how hard you want to turn it. Len has done 2 sets of heads for me so far, a set for my 2270, and a set for a customer with a 914 2.0. His work is EXCELLENT :agree: and very thourough with great attention to detail (he radiused my valve stems for Christ's sake ) He stays pretty busy, so count on 2-3 months turn around time. Go ahead an get in line for the lifters now too, 'cause it took me 6 months to get mine . PARTS: 1.7 litre rockers Hydro-cam havin' 2.0 litre Vanagon rocker spacers (they're solid) 911 valve adjusters (they swivel) Schaedeck 30mm Type I oil pump WebCam cam gear clearanced for the oil pump Full-flow pump cover (if you want more oil volume than the stock filter) A pair of DRLA40's from eBay carb man in Italy Linkage, hex bar and filters from CB Intakes from AC.net (tall one's, for use with the DTM) Ahnendorp/BAS header, or Tangerine superheader ($$$$) Ask Jake about some sealing tins if you didn't get any with your DTM, or I have the templates to roll your own if you need 'em.

Well I will see just what condition they are in after I get them all cleaned up in the parts washer at work. If they need any large amout of work I will send them off to HAM to get done. This is supposed to be a budget engine and already my wallet is hurting with all the options. I feel confident in replacing the valve guides if they are worn out but anymore than that and I think paying for the experience is cheaper than screwing up.
