Splitting 944 spring plates

Hi

I haven't been sniffing any exhaust fumes. Im getting some of my nuts & bolts & stuff plated ready for reassembly.

Can anyone tell me if the two halves of the 944 spring plates pull apart so that I can get them plated properly. If I get them plated in the position that they are now, if I ever need to move them for adjustment I will expose an un-plated section.

Yes they do come apart. The fun part is getting the springplate bushing off. (usally not easy)

Hi

yes they pull apart if you take out the inner elastic bushing (I had to do it anyway because it was destroyed) and change it

The 944 adjustable spring plates are a two piece design, the ecentic bolt and clamping bolt are the only things keeping them together.
For the bushings you must un-bond the vulcanized rubber with some heat.
Apply a propane torch to the surounding metal (and inside the tube) untill they start to smolder (not burning,ya don't need to burn the damn things), then quicky pry them off with a pry bar.
Then clean the remaining rubber/residue off with a wire wheel.

Hi

Thanks fro the replies guys. Dimitrios are you saying that there is a bushing inside spring plate or are you talking about the torsion bar rubbers? If there is a bushing inside the spring plate, where would you buy one?

Thanks for that, your English probably much better than my Greek, although I work with a lot of Greeks so I swear pretty well in Greek.

Super VW, I have used much the same method that you described to remove the rubber bushes.
