Porsche 915 or 930 gearbox in my 1302s

Hello

I am bilding a vw 1302s road racer. And I nead a new gearbox. And I nead to get the engin asfar as posibel in to the car. I do not whant to cut the irs tube. Mye engine is a mitsubishi 3000gt vr4 twin turbo. What is the best gearbox for my setup. 915 from 911 3,2(oil cooler) or the 930 4 speed turbo box. The engine has 320 hp and 475nm. Do some of you have god foto`s of 930 4 speed gearbox in vw. Help me decide.

Go for the 4-speed if you can find it and if its ok with only 4 gears.
How much does that engine weigh? 200kg? it has got a cast iron block right?
What about weight and balance in the car?
And how are you going to get it approved in norway?
Hope you get it to work together!

The engine is not that hevy. It`s 25kg more the my t-4 turbo engine. And it`s just 6 cm longer. I have a 930 4 speed lsd gearbox I can bay 25000nkr and I have a 915 from a 3,2 911 oilcooled for 15000nkr.

It not potoshop. It`s the engine Iàm putting in to my 1302s. The gearbox is not in the car. I have order some power parts from www.3sx.com to get 410hp and 515nm. And www.kennedyeng.com will make a kit to bolt it in to the car. I`am trying to decide what gearbox i want to have. 930 4 speed or 915 5 speed.

sounds a project. don't think your gonna bump into anyone else running one of them to often. think your limiting yourself by not wanting to cut the torsion tube out thou, thats more weight then i'd want hanging even further back than standard, more so cus of the adaptor plate. sorry i can't help with which box to use as i've only got a lil turbo engine and have no where near that kinda power. good luck thou

Intriguing conversion you have there! Unfortunately both those gearboxes will push the engine further back than standard without cutting the torsion bar housing, whatever you do...

It`s one of a cind. Cobramotors edition I have a bad feeling about cuting the tube. The car gets to weak i tink. And it is not posibel to get the car approved in norway. Do TUV approved cuting of the tube.

Hi

Are those motors FWD, could you fit it east - west and use the Mitsubishi transmission like Volkdent did? http://www.germanlook.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=4697

If you mount it all behind the torsion bar housing with a suitable Porsche transmission your going to spend a lot of time driving around on your back wheels.

The engine has a fwd tranny. I will have a look at the car. And see if its space to the engine and the awd gearbox.

Steve C. tanks . It seams like a god ide. I can just fiks the awd gearbox to be a 2 wd. The mitsubishi gearbox are wery strong to. And it is not costing much as the 915 and 930 gearbox.

Hi

No worries, its hard to see every page on this site when contemplating an idea.

When I saw Volkdents build-up I was very impressed with the idea of running and eats west motor in the back of bug. I guess like Volkdent you could use some of the Mitsubishi suspension.

Steve

The misubishi 3000gt suspension is to big. Mabe a mitsubishi carisma or a galant suspension.
