traction bars
I am going to be putting together a traction bar in the near future to support the underside of my engine. Question:
do you weld the braces to the body or can you run it from the standard bumper mounts? The bumper mounts seem a bit far away, but I dont really want to weld to the car unless I have to. Anyone got any decent pics?? Thanx

Tony,
With traction bar I assume you mean somthing like the Kafer Cup Brace ? Typically these tie the shocktowers to the framehorns. I believe there are braces that connect to the body, but in general the comments are that eventually the body wiil flex or even tear becuase of the load. There is a tech article about the install of the brace on the site. I've never seen a bar that ties to the bumper mounts, and I agree with you that that seems quite a distance to cover...plus the bar has to go straight back from the horns, which probably doesn't give a lot of support.... I know the bar you mean.
It has a pair of mountings which bolt onto the rear bumper mounts, you drop some threaded rod down from those and have a bar that runs from one side to the other, supporting the engine by its sump (or on a t4 it could bolt to the rear engine hangers). They do work, but you NEED to support the framehorns too. Cya, Sam C
