944 axle nut torque

Hi gang,
I have late model Turbo alloy arms .
Looks like I need to do wheel bearings .
I have been unable to locate a manual locally , so my question is.
What is the axle torque ?
This is a non castlated nut(no split pin) self locking nut .
I found a spec for the castlated type with a split pin at 340 ft lbs .
Thanks , Steve

Haynes for 83 -89 944 shows the wheel hub-to-stub axle nut torque for Al control arms is 340 Ft-lbs. They describe the procedure only for a castellated nut, with cotter pin. No mention of another type nut is made.

my understanding is that

-the alloy arm
-the hub and the stub axle both have baering 'cups' pressed on
-now when you squeeze a hub and stub together, they can only fit up to the shoulder on the hub

-so if you have any play - the bearings are worn

-PLUS
-the 'only' reason that a swing axle hub nut is so tight, is to ensure that the tolerance fit of the bearing on the shaft, makes it so, that the bearing is actuall put againgst the shoulder of the axle

-now my question is, could you cut 5mm off the outer bearing cup
-5mm off the shoulder of the hub, so that the track is then reduced 5mm
-which would then let you fit the 993 disc, with 5mm less offset, than the 71mm

-cos i would then be able to run 10 inch tyres
