Hi Adam thanks for the pic.....its all starting to make sense now :silly:

The 996 calipers mount differently to yours.. if looking at the pic of yours and i held my calipers up to it, mine would bolt through the caliper vertically...across the pistons, not in the same direction, as yours do......if that makes sense

Rigth as promised darren i have done a bit of searching and i came up withthis little lot, i now understand the difference between the two caliper types. It is relatively simple to make the adaptor, so i am going to source a set of calipers off a boxter and have a go at putting them to use on my car. BTW these pics are taken off the main site, here, i dont mean to step on anyones toes by using them , but it helps put the point across easier!



I am now gonna try and get some prices for the adaptors, if they prove cheap enough i shall buy them if not i shall fabricate my own. Only problems i can foresee are the front calipers as they already need an adaptor for the 944 mounting, and then it will need another for the boxter caliper, may be able to make an all in one caliper. I will keep you posted, let me know if you find anything.

yeah i can see now thanks for the pic.

If i remember Remmelle make an adaptor and its not cheap!

When i spole to Lee Arnold, he mentioned the expense involved in fabricating a bracket for a boxster/996 type bracket. Altho i cant see why it would be so expensive.

Expense??? i cannot see how this conversion is expensive, i have spoke to one of the blokes at uni, and he says if i struggle to get the machining done thaen they should be able to do it.
Those top adaptors were made by a person on this forum, i shall try and find out who it was and get some info off him

Matt,
Did you get anywhere with fitting boxster calipers to your 944 set-up?

I have just bought some 996 calipers which should mount the same (only £300!). Which discs did you end up using?

For the rear I used the 944 20mm thick rear disc.

For the fronts I used the 3.2 carrera front disc which is 24mm thick.

There is a small discrepancy in the radius of the 944 disc vs the boxster disc. This can be accomadated for by dropping the caliper down a little bit. THis is done in the measuremants of the adapter block.

Did you measure the lengths of the pistons in the calipers? Are the discs the same thickness as the boxters?

I will be needing 24mm for the back and 28mm for the front. I don't want my brake pistons falling out when the pads get worn!

for the 28mm disk i would use a pair off the front of a porsche 944 turbo, just got a set of these for mine,

I spoke to Mike Ghia and he thought 1986 944 turbo for the front as this was a one year only with thick discs which still mount from the rear (I have early 944 hubs).
For the rear he suggested 928 S2/4 discs.

I still want to confirm these thicknesses or if anyone else can?

ah sorry I cant help, I have the top hat style disks.

ah just remembered, this disk conversion for the 944 as sold by the porscheshop.com uses porsche 911 disks, dont know the thickness of hand but if they are selling kits using them, they must know what they are doing.
this was on ebay a few weeks back

I think that your disc thickness depends on the style caliper that you use. I used the Boxster monoblocks (black in color). The correct disc thickess for these disc is 24mm front and 20mm rear. The boxster S may use a rotor of bigger thickness. I am sure that the rotors I have are the correct ones for the calipers I am using because there are these little posts that the pads sit on. The spacing between these two points is around 26mm so it only aloows for the 24mm thick rotor. The distance between the posts in the back is like 22mm so it only allows for the 20mm rotor. Again, like I said things may be different for the Boxster S calipers. I can get part numbers and a couple picts if you are interested.

I believe they are the same as Boxster S

The calipers pictured are different than the ones that I have. The portion of the caliper where the mounting bolt goes through is different. Mine is not as thick. Here is a link to the pelican parts page. I am pretty sure that these are the calipers I have, or at least I what I can tell from the pictures.

The best way to determine your disc thickness is to measure the distance betweeen the posts that the pads rest on.
