Smile '75 1303 Suspension Options

Guys,

I'm looking for some advice here. I've got a '75 Super with Rack and Pinion steering and am looking to build the best handling super I can. I'm going down the same route as most power hungry folk; STI engine with G50 box + LSD for power etc but my main interest is getting the most out of the chassis and suspension for fast cornering. The plan is to use 944 turbo or 968 brakes (rear trailing arms if I can source them) with a winning suspension setup (that's where you come in).

Any advice on how I can make my bug handle like a race car? Oh, yeah, I will be fitting a proper roll cage as well (mainly for safety's sake) to so hopefully the body will be nice and stiff. Money is not really an issue here as I am looking to build something that will give me everlasting grin factor. I drive a twin-turbo Subaru Legacy (280BHP) on a daily basis so the aim is to build something more exciting for weekend playtime

Thanks.

Any ideas?

Hi,
suspension set up..I can't help you with!! but you said you want 944 Turbo or 968 alloy rear arms.

Theres a guy in Gorton Manchester that breaks Porsches, I can't find his number but he sells on Ebay, if you send him an e-mail he will be able to sort you out... heres his ebay details steve26c

Good luck.

Your Beetle sounds like it's going to be awesome :agree:

get a set of Kerscher struts... they use Eibach progressive rate springs,
Koni adjustable inserts and have a fully adjustable ride height....
get an uprated sway bar for the front and also get a strut tower bar too.

for the rear, get a mono ball setup, its similar to a 935 rear suspension
setup and gets rid of your rear torsion bars and uses adjustable coil overs.
also get a kafer cup brace to stiffen up the rear end...

And use all the semi-urethane suspension bushings with extra build-in camber and caster adjustment you can find in the Top-line catalog for the front suspension.
