Cost of good used type 4

What is the going rate for a good used (running) type 4 motor?

What I would like to do first is get a good running type 4 motor and covert to upright, get a good exhaust & weber carbs then install in my 71 1302. this way I have the conversion part done and then can concentrate on saving to build a larger type 4 motor (probably 2270)

I've seen them for only a couple of hundred bucks at a Porsche swap meet. Running 914 engines of all sizes. Hit up a good Porsche meet, that's what I recommend.

Talking Thats what I'm doing !

Vujade,

Thats the path I'm taking right now....I have found a running 914 2.0L engine for $1000 CAD at a local porsche 914 guy....the last swap meet I went to I found a bus engine, not running for $850 CAD.

I'll keep you posted with my developments !

Thumbs up Sandeep

I look forward to your progress... I am sure that you will be starting before me.

The only way I will start on the type 4 motor soon is if I find a really great deal, otherwise I have other things to work on first.

$850 CDN?! That's like $38.17 in USD!

Seroiusly, I could have had a running 2.0 from a 914 for something like $400 USD. 1.8's for less. Really provides a good, affordable basis. Unfortunatly, I didnt have the $ to spend on that at the time. Maybe next time around...

I would still have done a top-end rebuild, esecially the heads, maybe a new cam, and get a Cali Conversion, and then a 911 shroud later, with raised compression.
