would like to join

Hey guys I don't live in the SE, I live in Texas my wifes family is from South Carolina and we visit out there a few times a year.

Here is what I am planning for my car tell me if you think i can join your Gruppe?

I have a 1973 1303 in planning/construction stage of getting a full GL treatment.
A few mods planned:
Power...
13BT Wankel Rotary I know it is not a VW/Porsche/Audi engine but Wankel was german so... Turbo 300hp is the plan with inter cooler and big blow off valuve for that cool Psssft sound durring shifts. Porsche 5 speed. Coil overs Brembo/Porsche cross drilled brakes all 4 corners powder coated blue calipers.
Wheels and tires...
17 or 18's Porsche Turbo or Boxter like the way they look on Joe's car...
Light weight everything....
Carbon Fiber Hood, cf fenders, cf bumpers with blue powder coated aluminum bumper mounts drilled out air craft style, cf running boards, cf door panels, cf racing seats, CF Porsche early 911 style dash with Porsche guages. That should lighten up the old girl... then add back a little weight with a blue powder coated chromemoly roll cage with points for the suspension to tie in front and back
27mm rear sway bar 25mm front
Smoke grey paint with raw carbon fiber every where else...
and a few other things in cant think of right now...
I plan on budgeting 20k or so. My biggest thing is time.... not much of it work long hours.

let me know what you guys think?

Hey Vincent, sorry for the delay, I just saw this post. I think this has been a scattered week for the VKG. Zen is on vacation, Pillow is looking for a Job, Vujade is doing the paint on his ride and I think John is out of town too. It sounds like you have a wild project planned. I will try to get with Zen and see if we can talk about the 13B turbo. We have talked about Water Boxter's and Corvair engines but this will be the first debate of a Wankle.
There are a lot of the "Old School" folks aroud here too, but when they see a GL they seem to like it. I get alot of comments and do a lot of talking to people at shows about my car(more so than the traditional folks get about their cars I think). I do think that GL is catching on.

Dave, I have talked with Vincent last nite and think he would be an excellent addition to the club.

I dont care about the rotary motor, as far as I am concerned its a german design and his car fits the look we are going for.

Don't let my alias get in the way. I'm eazy. If it's good with the others, it's good with me. I like air-cooled but I don't have anything against radiators.

i am cool with it. the rule stays, but its main purpose is too keep the VKG cars at a high quality and try to keep an identifiable image intact. it sounds like that will be met with your project. you will just be an allowed exception to the engine rule. don't you feel special?

check the site for the details on the join process. basically, shoot me a check (make it out to me instead of the club...long story) or preferably paypal, and fill out a member profile on the site and we will get you up there. i will also send you out a sticker.

"Hot Texas Summers"--- I hear that. I had a Bus and a Bug when I lived in southern New Mexico, had to add a big oil cooler to them, but hey, a swamp cooler worked great there. Too humid here.

One of the reasons for going with so much Carbon fiber is to reduce weight so that when I add AC back to the car it will balance out and I am going to have power windows and locks. I will also use the hot water lines running up front to the radiator and connect it to a heater core to provide heat in the winter.
My primary use for the car will be a daily driver/Ricer embarasser. I will also compete in some auto x events as well as road racing at the Motorsports Ranch A local track that is a country club for cars they have a lot of Porsche club events out there. Cant wait to have fun with the Porsche guys...
