Speedometer

I'm driving on the freeway the other day in my 72, the needle on the speedo dropped, and my speedo just went out. I've been trying to fix it. All of my connections are fine (I think), there aren't any fuses blown, and as far as I can tell, the speedo cable seems to be properly in place (I think).

Would the cable need to be replaced? is there anything that might not be attached properly? Is there anything else I should check?

Thanks alot

k, I pulled the speedo cable out of the spindle, and disconnected it from the back of the speedo head.

When I spin the end that's normally in the spindle, the inner cable at the other end doesn't spin.

I'm guessing my cable is broken? that could very well be the problem, right? or am I wrong?

just so as you know, the speedo is fully mechanical, no electrical parts in it.

and yes you have a busted cable.
