03 front strut help (kershcer, brake pipe locator)

Need a bit of help/advice on some 1303 front strut issues

The car is a 1974 1303 karmann cab with 2 bolt suspension and drum brakes (bloody italian spec!)

My query is around the brake pipe locater on the strut

On the car are the coilovers on the left of the picture, note the brake pipe holder and speedo cable locator

In the middle are the ones I am trying to fit, which are Kerscher coils. Note that this has 'flat' holders both sides.

On the right is an early Mk1 Golf strut that only has one flat holder

Neither the kerscher or the golf strut have a speedo locator.

Qu's:
Is the kerscher strut correct for the car? or is it a golf item?
Or are the flat holders for cars with disks and the vertical ones for drums?
Or should I just bend the pipe and bolt it up

Cheers,
Neil

Hello Neil, welcome back to Germanlook!

That middle strut is an older design Kerscher strut for a Bug. Probably sold by GCC, 18 months or longer ago. The 'helper' springs were later omitted and a single, progressive Eibach spring used.

They have two brake pipe locators, one each side to eliminate the need for left and right handing. Only bulkhead type flexi hoses, like Goodridge fit without minor work.

The speedo cable will be fine without the support.

Matt
