1978 924 parts swap to a 73 super beetle?

Im basically cross posting this thread from the brakes forum, because this same question applies to suspension, as well as brakes... so here goes.

I just recently bought my first beetle, (73 super) and am peicing together the parts for my resto/rebuild, and plan on a full suspension change, as well as a full brake conversion to disks ect. I've got a friend with a 1978 924 porsche, and I was wondering, are there any covetted parts on his car, that can be swapped on over to my car?

im hoping that maybe the front disks, and maybe even some of the suspension components could be changed over...?

Can anyone shed some light on the subject? Thanks in advance!

I don't think the 924 has any suspension parts that are very different to the super so leave it alone. The 924S/turbo is the same as 944 and they have bigger discs etc etc that will swap over.

so I can swap the front rotors over?... and I guess the rears are drums as well huh? Is the rear suspension much different? Do the rear axles on the 924 have single U joints or 2 of them? Can I swap the 924 rear out for the super rear? could I later then upgrade to rear disks?

I don't know about the front rotors, but I don' think they are very different to bug discs so not worth swapping, same goes for the rear drums.

The rear suspension is pretty much identical so no gain in swapping.
Don't know what you mean by U joints, the 924 and IRS beetles use axles with a CV at each end. later 944 stuff will bolt straight on to your current trailing arms as they are the same as the 944 arms...

so these are 2 things that I am just learning.

1. that my beetle has discs in the front
2. that it also has u-joints (universal joints,) on both sides of the axles, u joints are what I call them hailing from old domestic days.

is that correct?

Hmm, I don't know if your bug has discs... that should be fairly easy to check! they came with drums and discs in the UK, not sure about you...

UJ is the type of joint normally found in the steering column which is a completely different joint to a CV (constant velocity) joint which is what you have on the end of your IRS axles.

Do you have a 1302 or a 1303 super?

There are a few threads on 944 brake swaps so I won't go into all that here.

A 1302 has struts and a flat. old style windscreen
A 1303 has struts and a curved windscreen

The struts changed at some point from having a flat 3 bolt flange at the base of the strut to a more conventional style 2 bolt flange on the side of the base of the strut. You need the later 2 bolt style to swap over to the 944 hubs but you can convert between the 2/3 bolt styles.

so my car has drum brakes, I checked a week ago.

Ive got the chance to buy that 924 for 300 bucks or so. would you guys think that it would be worth it to swap those front disks in? also, my rear suspension is basically somewhat ****ty shape, im thinking it might actually be something i would want to do, to buy it and start swapping parts.
