Ok, here is my problem....?

I have my fasty up for sale on the Samba and also put it in the trade section too.

I have one chap that wants to trade me a 74 Super (pretty much stock) and no rust other then battery area.

And now i have another chap that has a 73 standard with no rust, narrowed 2" adjustable beam, crossdrilled rotors, cb drop spindles, genuine porsche 2
liters, excellent condition. the engine is a stock 1600 with weber 34
ict's the tin is powdercoated black and the car has a new interior.

I really wanted to get a Late Model Super this time around, but after considering everything this standard car has it would really make my life easy to make it a GL. I have so much money going into my other beetle at the moment, that I have no extra to build a GL and this car would only need a few minor things to get me there.

Heres a pic.....

I have to say the Standard is looking good!

But if you really want a late super it is better to get what you want and slowly work it up. The super does look clean, just much too stock!

I'd have to agree with Adrian,

The 73 looks a bit Cal look to me,
Start with a blank canvas... go for the Super

:agree: I believe the Super's the better candidate for a GL.

Considering how clean your Fastback is, you could negotiate for a few $$$, plus the Super as trade for your car.

I'm with Adrian and Rob, the Standard is a bit more Cal-look than German look in the picture, but still a nice car.

Get the 1303, stick the 2275 in it, put some brakes/wheels on it, sell the drag bug and finish the GL. :agree:

yes it is a bit cal look, but that is easily fixed with blacked out chrome and lowered in the rear and then then the road the right Porsche 17" wheels.

I know you guys are probably right about getting the Super, but this guy has been stringing me for a few months now (he's in Missouri) and the standard guy is here in FL and is ready to do something.... I guess Ill have to wait and see what happens with the Super guy coming thru or not...he's supposed to be coming down in early Jan.

I would agree as well, its better to start with a blank canvas, even if it takes a while to finish.

And you really want one, so why not?

I think both look very nice and would be good candidates in their own right. I understand the dynamics of dealing with two different personalities and having two cars from which to choose that are at different stages of being what you want it to be. It makes it a difficult decision. (I own a Super so if I injected my personal preference, it would be for the Super.)

What I will say is this, though. Since you have stated a long-time desire for a 1303, you may want to stay focused on that.

I searched for a '75 for over a year. The closest I came to actually getting one is making flight arrangements. I had to swallow one-way airline tickets twice. I eventually found the '71 1302 I now have. I love it. I'm going forth to GL it although it will be more subdued compared to my original plans because I don't think a 1302 would handle my original plans as nicely as a 1303 (my opinion only).

And while there are reasons I genuinely like my 1302 more than a 1303, I still want a 1303 -- and still want to make it a full-on GL -- maybe even more radical (like no back seat and no passenger seat) given I have a 1302 already.

My point is you may not have that itch scratched because you are scratching somewhere else.

I have followed your endeavors to some degree because you have offered me plenty of good advice. I don't know the "why's" of your transactions but you had a beauty of a 1302 and your Fasty looks very nice. If you swapped out of those because it wasn't exactly what you wanted, I say stay focused on exactly what you want. If it's a 1303 -- then the decision should be between this 1303 or another one later in time.

I agree with you about staying focused. Sometimes it is hard for me, cause I have so many interest. Sometimes I have to priotize my interest to keep from going nuts. I do want a Full on 1303 GL, but I have also loved all of the late model standard GL's that Remmele has built too. And as far as my 1302 went, I sold it for two reasons. First off the paint job came out sh*tty and I really wanted a 1303 to start with and settled for an 02 that I could afford at the time. Then I bought the fasty, not really because I wanted to do a Fasty GL (I do love T3's btw) but because my other half at the time wanted me to get a Fasty because that is what she liked and I was trying to make her happy as well and include her in my projects. Now that I am making decisions for myself again I decided I would sell the Fasty and get a 1303. But I also like standard, Notch's and Ghias for that matter and would be happy with any of these. MY problem is the same as many of you...Im love VWs and wish I could afford to have 1 (or more) of each type...LOL

One other factor that will come into the decision is whether this guy that owns the 1303 gets his arse in gear and gets down here to FL to make the trade. If he dont come thru I may end up with the standard of even perhaps selling the car.

overspray has a notch project for sale for cheap. hit his site.

otherwise, stick to the plan. go for the 1303. if it doesn't work out, you are guaranteed there will be other good standard candidates out there. this one is by no means unique.
