Brake wear indication

Anyone using a setup which can tell the wear on the brake pads? Er.. something like those used on the Porsche pads?(ie, a led lite to warn you that your pads are to be replaced)

It shouldn't be hard to make something, the pads have wires imbeded into them, when they wear enough they ground out and light an indicator on the dash. I have owned BMWs with that set up, I have never felt a need for an indicator because I get under my cars fairly often.
