Wheel fitment , the facts?
Ok here is my situation I had my plan all work out how I wanted to build my bug but now it's falling apart, I'm close to giving up and selling the car.
Can anyone tell me the following: What size offset will I need if I do 4 wheel 944 disc brake conversion? Are CB's disc brakes any good and do they widen the track width if so how much? What offset would be needed if I was to run these? Thanks for the help , I'm hoping to keep my project alive... |

Hey,
Dont give up ! The 944 brake conversion to a BJ/IRS beetle is easy .. rears just bolt on and you can adapt the ebrake easily by modifying a small 944 stock piece with a welder and a dremel .. you can use the stock bug ebrake cables. Fronts, you need to get a machine shop to make up some bearing spacers. I think this is the best method as you are using stock Porsche peices with no mods, as opposed to some other methods where you have to machine the hub. Check out my tech article on the main site for the info. The rear width is increased by 22mm per side and the front is increased by about 12mm per side (with stock beetle spindles) To be safe, you could use a 16x6 front wheel with a 52mm offset under stock front fenders and the same in the rear, under stock fenders. Hope this helps but I can't answer any questions about the CB kit ... no experience ! Sandeep |

Sandeep thanks for the solid answers, I've been getting mixed answers which was confusing the heck out of me. Now is that 17X7 with no spacers or beam narrowing, just convert to 944 and bolt on the wheels? Thanks again for your help, it's much apperciated.
