Removing dash

How do I remove the dash of a 1970 Standard Beetle ?

Is there a way to leave the dash out and just use some lightweight cover ? Or would that look really hokey ?

Thanks,

Rob.

There are metal tabs sticking through on the back of the dash (under the hood). Twist them to straighten them out and the dash will pull off. You will have to remove the headlight knob and the emergency flasher knob. Also tremove the handle above the glovebox. I pulled mine off, and Im going to have my dad weld in all of the holes to give it a smooth look. You can also go with carbon fiber or fiberglass smooth dash covers.

there are also a few small screws to remove under the dash, i have seen both carbon fiber and fiber glass dashes that you can replace your old one with but i prefer the metal dash thats hidden by the ugly cover
