Boxster Instrument Cluster

Ok,
I'm new here and I'm starting to build a German Look Bug. The main focus at the moment is the interior, and I've seen a Boxster Cluster fairly cheap, anyone got an idea of how hard it would be to wire one of these in and what kind of senders to use? I wiring diagram would be great, but I've had no luck tracking one down yet I know I won't be able to use the digital parts of it, but I'd like to be able to use the analogue parts and the warning lights. If all else fails I suppose I could go the tried and tested route of Autometer Stuff

Chris

PS. This is what I'm talking about

Hi Chris,

For starters, it's not easy to replace the cluster in a Boxster even. You could go for the earlier clusters as these have less digital area. If you are looking to only use the analog gauges of it, why not open it up and trace the wires/connections that go directly to the gauges? For every gauge you should end up with a ground, a hot wire, and a sender wire. I have spend some time figuring out a 993 tach with an M659 computer in it. I handed the project over to a buddy when I decided to go for the simple, reliable technology of a 914 tach and had the ring/bezel replaced to match the rest of my gauges (911). I gave him the tach, the connectors/pin collection for it, and the connection diagram that I had figured out after some weeks of study (with access to all factory manuals and diagrams), he reported it worked. You'll need the complete wiring diagrams of the year and model your cluster or gauge came out of. Your Porsche dealer should provide you with that, as stated in the (older) Porsche owners manuals (I have never verified if this is still written in the newer model owners manuals). The problem is the diagrams are contained in a binder and they fold out three or four times per page, and you need them all, there are coordinates on them and some things just jump from one coordinate a another that is a few pages back or forth in the binder. They won't be very happy when you ask them to photocopy that.

Enjoy, I hope it helps,
