Oilcooler

Were do you guys mount your external oilcoolers? Front of the car or above the transmission? I'm just concern about oil pressure. May loose oil pressure if the lines are long to the front apron?

most locate it under the package tray, above or slightly to the side of the tranny. mine hangs about 6 inches under the tray (due to the cup brace) and to the left of the tranny. fan on bottom and pulls through. my cooling has been almost too good. i run a DTM so i have a stock cooler and the external which is a Setrab. i have yet to get it above 205.

I did a tech article on the RX7 cooler, it is in the Tech Article on the main page.

I have seen the case taped for full flow withoput spitting the case by hand drilling and tapping the case useing grease in the bit and tap to hold the chips.

How about guys using oilcoolers at the front or a combination of those remmele type scoups directing air to the oilcoolers then coming out to the rear wheel area.

I plan to move mine to the front when I do the 901 trans install. I will plumb it with hard lines the length of the car and short flex lines at the cooler and engine.

Oil cooler up front is fine for pressure. I even use the stock (old) oil pump and presuure is fine. Oil never gets above 185F in my 2.4 ltr with 10.8 CR
In my late 03 it sits behind the original a/c grille.

Any idea what diameter your oil lines are Wally?

I'm looking to mount my cooler up front, but have heard it mentioned several times that too large a diameter can cause issues with pressure drop.

I (and many, many others) have the (sort of standard) 1/2" inner diameter oil lines.
A new 30mm pump would be better of course
