My vote is YES!
I've wanted to do this all along. Part of the whole theme I've been working on. I could picture it in my mind but thanks to Wesayso, I could actually see it.

As far as involving our local Porsche dealer, they're not really car people. Most of them know very little about cars. I know this sounds ridiculous but we've bought several cars from them and they are clueless.

IMHO, leave it alone. let the subtleness speak for itself. i do think what i have seen looks cool, but think the statement is even stronger when not distracted by the text. again, just me though.

one thought for you in case you do go with it. consider static vinyl. you can add and remove at will that way. if you later decide you don't like the logo (and you haven't been leaving it on all of the time in the sun), you can just never use it again and not have paint fade impression of it. cost is about the same as vinyl letters. if needed, i can hook you up with the guy who does our VKG stickers and other stuff for me. let me know if you want his info.

and DAMN you make me want a panel bad. and i am looking for a bus at the moment. will probably go GL Rat though as it will just be a Home Depot runner.

Do not fear the dark side. The panel is your friend. You must have panel. Panel is the way to happiness. Know the panel. Be the panel.

My vote would be no.
I like the 'stealth' aspect of (almost) stock panels. Besides with a panel as straight as that why detract from it?
I did have a question though, why PORSCHE? Isn't your bus powered by a chevy?
Just my opinion. what ever way you go the panel is still killer! :agree:
Cheers,
Dave

Thumbs up

I picked a Porsche logo because I like the style. I used Porsche wheels and Porsche brakes (eventually big reds when I can). Will be switching to a Porsche tranny when I can afford it. Considered Porsche power but the price is just ridiculous...
I just thought, If Porsche had a delivery van, what would it look like?

Regardless, I appreciate all the comments. It helps me to consider things I might overlook.

no dedicated section at this time. "off topic" or "GermanLook" is probably the closest at this time. i have been debating whether we should have one or not.

Pretty sure someone has a panel van over here with exactly what you were planning. If I find a pic I will post it..

Hey, I just aquired a '58 panel that is amost completly solid (a few small patches, and a lot of dents to bang out)
so I'm pondering this question as well.
I'm debating over going to the original color (monotone greenie grey)
or to do a new color of some sort, in monotone or two tone.

but either way I want to do a LOGO of some sort,
either for my company or a porsch/vw related logo.

Check out page 56 of this months Hot VWs (June 2005) for a Panel with a Porsche/VW logo. Apparently Porsche used the 68-72 model panel buses for service vehicles at race tracks.

Where could I find more information on distressing a logo? I've got my eye on a semi-beat up 71 bus that I want to use for a work horse/tower for the Super race car that I'm building. It's got faided read paint and it would look really cool if I could do some type of vw/porsche logo that looks as old as the bus does.
