STI engine installation anyone?

I am slowly installing my STi in my Manx and hope to see it finished in a few weeks. I am just wondering if anyone else is going through the same painfull process now?

Me Too!

Not nearly as far along as you.

Porsche speedster kitcar, WRX motor, Porsche TT Wheels, 915, Uniball, no torsion bars, RX7 front brakes, 944T rear brakes.

I currently have my EJ20T mounted in the car. I have the radiator mounted in my Ghia, I also have the water lines run front to back.
I have left to run the rubber lines for the radiator, finish running the fuel lines, mount the computer and wire the engine, tidy up the engine, remount the intake(reversed), weld my reversed water manifold... the list goes on. Those are Just to get the engine running with coolant.
Since I'm doing a complete restoration of this Ghia, I'm far from having everything else lined up but that's another long list.

I'm at about the same point as Mikey. EJ20 turbo on a bus tranny, just got the first of my water lines in this weekend, followed by the first bit of wiring and the radiator. You know what they say, misery loves company

Im fitting one as well into a 1303 with a G50, 26mm short torsion bars, Brembos, car restoration etc.

My WRX RA engine is thrown in to the cab but project on hold for a few months, hope to get back on to it after the new year.

superRSI is there more done on this project?
I am doing the same thing, different project car... (sterling not manx)

As I am about to purchase my motor, I wanted to understand the difficulties that you have run into. I myself am looking at an 04' front cut from a subi-sti and want to make sure that I am making the correct decision as I have other options (currently running a corvair flat 6, want something lighter, easier to work with...) as such please tell me more about what you've done, run into, had to over come ect....

I have total control over the rear section of the car, so spacing ect. isn't an issue.

Also do you have a site for your project? it seems we are running alot of the same gear (alu-arms 944t brakes ect...)

Please advise.

im new here, i been wondering around on all kinds of other forums. i have a 74 super beetle, with a jdm subaru ej20h or aka twin turbo. and keepin the twins on there n as much stock as i can. having a guy combine my wiring. just unbolted the ac, power steering pump. hooked the intercooler on the motor. in process of takin out stock beetle motor n tranny, cuttin pans n weldin in a all metal dash , all metal door panels as well. im in process of doing a step by step webpage, so hopefully when its up and running good i can post the link to help out other newbies as well.
i'll be using a 091 6 rib bus tranny. the brakes, cv's, axles im still debatin on those. will use porsche cookie cutter wheels. radiator up front, intercooler in stock position, will run a special duct work along top of roof to the intercooler. more to come in future, im glad to find others in this process as well.

got my motor...

Gents,
Got my new 05' STI engine.

Issues to overcome & the solutions to the problems.
1. This engine comes with a servo-tronic throttle body. So either hack the Suby pedal cluster for all the sensors and bits or junk it, and use the bug pedals but I need a cable driven throttle body...
2. Throttle position sensor in that throttle body must be 'replaced' with use of bug pedal cluster.
3. extra sensors and bits that will not be needed, figuring those out and removing them?
4. wire harness adaptation to the car (removal of security system/different sensors needed or not needed to be wired in or out of the system...)
5. ECU? Stock v.s. non-stock

1 - solution. Replace 05' throttle body with an older SOHC Throttle Body from a forester 2.5 (cable throttle to replace servo-throttle).
2 - solution. With the above mentioned throttle body a different TP sensor will be used, but must be wired in...making a change to the harness mandatory
3 - solution. Remove all extra bits from the motor leaving only the bare essentials to motor functionality ( debating on the AC system but removing everything else).
4 - solution. Custom fabbed harness to join new throttle and sensors into engine harness.
5 - solution. Use a fully aftermarket ECU that is custom mapped for the new throttle body and its sensors, allows for dyno-tuning and much more 'fine' tuning.

At this point I believe that I will be working with OutFrontMotorSports here in the states to get this all dialed in. They have a strong rep for doing these installs into sand rails. For me the application is similar but I will tune and build for street use. So I am expecting about $2000.00 - ish to overcome the throttle body / ECU dilema, but this will give me a "pretty simple plug-n-play" solution... i hope.

So what are others doing to work with this engine and its unique aspects?
Anyone try to adapt the pedal cluster yet? what are you guys doing about the extra parts that you don't need?

am I on track and making sense?

have I missed anything that someone doing this job already has come up against?

Using the STI pedals?
