Inner IRS rod end option?
Hi All,
I'm sick of the squeaking of the urethane bushes in my IRS inners, it gets really bad with rear passengers. Has anybody tried adapting them to rod ends successfully? It's either that or going back to OEM rubber... Cheers, Rich

Better back to OEM
There is no remedy that helps permanently. Many have already been annoyed by the squeaking and also by the transmission of the noises into the interior. (gearbox, suspension ect.) Most build back to the original (also available as an HD version)

Thanks for your reply, can you recommend a manufacturer of the HD version as I haven't come across that?

No idea in the UK.
In Germany for example: GWD-Duesseldorf https://www.gwd-weiser.de/drehstablagergummi/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rnn_-ePe4_I or: Gerd Tafel Tuning https://tafelshop.de/ https://tafelshop.de/Drehstablagersatz-HD/S10504 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MLnxyT7g1w

There are advertisements from many VW shops in the Volks World Magazine.
Some may also carry these parts. Just ask.

Thanks, I'll have a look. Those links you shared are for the outer torsion bar positions, I'm looking for the ones in the suspension arm at the inner position by the framehorns..

Oh, sorry, I read that wrong.
There are no extra HD known to me now. I don't think there are any. My mistake.

I once saw that someone converted those inner IRS pivot rubbers into uniballs, but i can't find it.
And Delrin is maybe a better option? https://kingoffroadparts.com/saco-pe...ivot-bushings/ Edit: I found them https://www.9products.com/product/10...erical-bushing. Fahrvergnugen has used them on his VWrankentein Oval. Maybe you can contact him

Only just saw the reply! I haven't used Delrin like this before, not sure if that is immune to squeaking?
I've seen those 944 spherical kits but they won't work directly with a bug IRS rear end, different bolt diameters. I guess I might be able to adapt them?

Ricola,
I saw where a guy used the 944 bushings from Elephant Racing by welding a nut inplace of the inner threaded portion of the inner trailing arm mount. https://www.elephantracing.com/porsc...ball-cartridge Ian who did it... https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/vi...t=ian&start=80 https://shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic...96566#p1296566 Enjoy Last edited by DORIGTT; August 1st 2022 at 18:51. Thanks Dorigtt, that looks very promising. It looks like it was just the bolt he modified, I guess the stock VW threaded part takes the place of the red spacers on the inner side of the bearing..

Ricola, to use the spherical bearing I just turned down the VW bolt. I used alloy arms, I'm not sure how the bearings fit in a steel arm, what have you got? I would imagine it would still work.
I had to narrow the inner spacer that comes with the spherical bearing to get the arm where I wanted it (further inboard) but it was pretty easy to do. Between the provided spacers and the factory washers you should be able to set it up how you like. good luck if you go this way, Ian |

Thanks for your reply Ian!
My only concern now is that I have the steel IRS arms from a 944 and possible internal diameter issues? From searching it looks like people that have fitted the VW size irs urethane bushes have to keep the steel bush sleeve that is part of the Porsche bushing assembly but that is removed when fitting the uninall kits so the kit might be too big for the be arm?
