Main bearing seizure.

I have a qeustion for you fellas. Now that I have removed the seized main bearing(Pulley side), I noticed the marks inside the bearing were it is scorned. I also however noticed some light marks on the crankshaft corrisponding to the ones in the bearing. It looks like the metal of the bearing has been 'deposited' onto the c/s. My thinking is that this can be removed with very fine wirewool without damaging the c/s. Is this so? If not, how does one go about cleaning up the c/s?

Thanks in advance!

IMO, take it to a machine shop and have them polish the bearing journals. How long had the motor run before it seized? If it had not run for very long you might be able to use some "fine" emery cloth torn into strips as wide as journal and wrap the cloth around it, and run it back and forth a few times. Do this all the way around the journal to try and keep the "polishing" even. But, I highly recommend a automotive machine shop.

Thanks wrenchnride247. It is exactly that, that was the first thing that went through my mind this morning when I woke up.... Bugger, now to find a decent shop that I can trust with my crankshaft, and that wouldnt want to rip me off.....

So the quest begins...

Called serial-combi.com today and the guy basically turned me down. Said it was about €150-00 to do the crank and then the work an not always be gaurenteed, whereas a new crank is €189-00. This I really find frustrating, they never want to re-do stuff. Instead they take the easy route and tell you to buy a new one. Plus, that way they sell another parrt, not loose money to the "Grinders".

Anyone out there in France, if you can be of help to tell me where I can get someone to re-grind this crank, it would be much appreciated(I just can not see how I am suppose to throw away a <almost perfect> good crank. What if I had a stroker crank!? Throw that away as well if in fact it realy only needed a polish?).

Thanks in advance.
