CC vs. HP
I've been weighing engine options and can't decide which cc is best for me. What cc would give be a ballpark horsepower of 150-200? Thanks
Note: A list of cc's and a ballpark horsepower would be even more helpful |

You left out the important part... how much money do you have in your budget for motor? Also, daily driver, or weekend warrior?

I would like to spend around $3000. Car is a daily driver, but, like most people I want to floor it down the street once and a while, and the car will do quite a bit of highway driving. I would like 100-200 horsepower
Note: No engine heating will be used Car must: Be somewhat easy to service/tune-up by myself Be reliable in all seasons (including winter) Get decent gas mileage Desired features: Turbo Full flow oil As little chrome as possible, if any (Maybe a 1914cc? I am not sure exactly what cc would be best) |

How much fab work are you able to do yourself, what parts do you already have ? if it is a matter of just fitting a crate motor then go vw , if you are more creative and hands on possibly a suby motor these provide cheap power

In all honesty, I don't see how you can get a turbo on there for $3000 and still retain everyday reliability. Have you considered a Type IV engine? Those make 100+ easily. Jake Raby and massIVe site have great info.
I would suggest a 1915, heck even a mildly tuned 1776 will make over 100 Hp, a Chico built engine. Just tell him what numbers you want to see and he will work with you on the options you need to get there. Reliably. $3000 is plenty for a well built VW engine, not much if you are looking into a Subaru swap, cause then your talking fabrication of new stuff and tranny fitting etc. I personally would go with a nicely tuned 1776. |

I also am a bit undecided on what i want to do in which way to go on motors. I wanted to either go with a smaller cc engine with a turbo setup or go with a bigger cc to get the same horsepower you are looking for. i wanted to keep to the roots though. i didn't want to go with a subaru motor i wanted to keep the aircooled engine. I found two different options for turbo motors. either lowbugget.com or cb performance. lowbugget is a little cheaper and they advertise they can get 200hp with a 1914cc turbo motor i believe. Fuel injection i have also thought about too.
