Those with 915 installs

Ive got a question for those of you who have a 915 gearbox but not cut the torsion housing.

how far back does your gearbox sit into the engine bay? mine sits a couple of inches into the engine bay compared to a bug box - and was wondering if anyone has had clearence issues with a porsche fan set up being too close the the decklid?

ive not got a case with a fan mounted so cant mock it up.

cheers

Deano

oopss! as above lol.

a mate of mine has a case knocking around with a 260mm BAS set up which im going to mock up and see.

Lee at LAP said his set up on the green bug just touches the lid - starting to think my best bet maybe horizontal fan set up but there may be possible clearence issues with the belt pulleys?

We shall see!

i can gain about 8mm off the back if i use that nose cone as i am running 8mm spacers on the framehorns - but no more - just interested as there are a few people who have done the conversion without the use of the bug@ nose cone

I have spacers between my gearbox cradle and the frame horns, cant remember exactly but I would say they are no more than 10mm with a standard 915 box, standard nose cone.

With a type 1 case and CSP shroud and fan mine clears the decklid even with the coil mounted on the shroud.

Cheers Dean

Yeah I made a few changes like the colour of the wheels and Porsche fan etc.. mostly detailing. I also fitted an after market shifter which is the best mod I made to the car since finishing it! well recomended.

How's your car coming on? hopefully see you at a show soon to say hi.

Yeah I have used 911 parts throughout, when I built mine I dont think anybody had heard of bug@5speed!

shame as it would have made the gearbox installation a lot easier

Not sure if I'll be at bug jam but more than likely at Action and yeah I;ll be doing the strip again.

See you there hopefully.

P.S glad it all fitted!
