Air filters: types and opinions
Some questions: my filters hit the side of the fanhousing. OEM 1600 fanhouse, 36 DRLA carbs and standard manifolds. Also, I`m not to convinced that mye current Chrome EMPI filters do any good to my engine.
Therefore I`m curious about the mesaurements on the CB filters. See pics below: 1) My current (EMPI chrome cheap) filters 2) CB filters 3) ITG megaflow (JC 20 /65) |

The foam filters are the best. We use product from a company called True-Flow that has some very nice foam filters for many applications (exept webers like we run) but the ITG an other brand of racing foam filters are better than the paper gauze filters (like K&N..ect).
The foam (with good sticky oil) will trap more dirt, cinders and stuff than the gauze filters, and they flow very nice aswell (usually better). Most race cars are running no filters, or foam filters... like the ITG's Im running gauze filters at the moment till some ITG's show up, i first need to figure out how im going to run my breather lines from my breather box. as with ITG's you dont have a solid mounting surface for a bulkhead ftting.

Actually K&N has filters for us (weber idf etc) out of fabric (like the thing you put on scars and wrap around)and they are redish in colour (K&N's panel filters are both paper element and the gauge element). They are cleanable and require a "special" oil to be sparyed onto them to work properly. The main reason i sticked with the K&Ns is that i park my car outside by the road in the open, so when it rains the chance of water passing through the airfilters is slim to none since they have the plate on top to hold them. I would really like to try the ITGs though...

Any more opinions?
This should be a area of interest since our engines need clean air. And Dellortos really would appreciate it. |

Unfortunatly there is not a whole lot of options for our carbs.
You could also looking into a central mounted airbox with a simple flat filter. Custon & Speed parts has them (CSP). the advantage to those is they keep the sound down. they are expensive relative to others... but look neat! Jonathan
