'65 bus GL prahjekt

Hey all, guess its time i show what im workin on....

its a 1965 "EZ Camper" going GL.

Heres the plan...
Power will be supplied by a torque monster 1915cc that my buddy is building. Specs on that later.
Full exterior repaint in the original velvet green.
'83 944 vented discs front and rear, with a 944 MC as well.
17" Porsche turbo twists 7" front 9" rear.
4" narrow beam and drop spindles from wagenswest and a steering box raise.
IRS conversion rear along with a narrowed torsion housing to fit those 9" wheels.
Built type 1 trans from AZ transaxle.
Safari windows from Wolfgang.
And i will be fixing the "jersey look" fenders also. Stay tuned for that.

Heres some pics of the bus:

This how she looked when i found her.

Heres how she sits now.

Havent seen much progress with this but i'll update what ive got so far.

Steering box raise in progress....

Safaris partially installed, i still have to weld the tabs in. We quit workin cos it was late and we had already put away a case of Rolling Rock.

Oh yeah, and you may notice i shaved the "fried egg" turn signals.

Put LED's in the stock taillights

Running light.

And this is the brake light. i better not get rear ended when i get this thing rollin.

Looking great! You wouldn't have any How-to info on the LED taillight conversion? I would appreciate some info about that.

How much did you have to narrow the IRS to get the wheels to tuck properly?

Basically i figured out how much room i had to play with inside the lens area, then found some "trailer" LED lights and retro-fitted them. A little cutting and fitting and they dont look half bad IMO....

i narrowed it 3" total. 1.5" per side. Heres a how to link:

http://vwrepublic.com/forums/index.php?topic=22.0

edit. Just re-read your question and realised i didnt answer properly. i didnt narrow the IRS, i narrowed the bus torsion to bug specs, and then it was a bolt on operation, except for having to recess the IRS pivots into the bus frame horns.

Oh yeah, update. Got the brakes sorted and bled today. The pushrod needs adjusted because there is a bit of freeplay in the pedal....type 1 engine is also getting the top end freshened so i can drive it while i build the monster type 4.
