Roll Cage Design
Well, I'm getting ready to build my first roll cage for my Turbo Euro Bug. And I would like your guys imput/tips on building this.
Here Is my car: Here is My ideas so far: (masking tape represents 4130 tubing) I have it going to the bottem of the wheelwell because I'm removing the torsion tubes and going to make a mount for a ladder bar for the differnt suspension i'm doing back there. When it comes to safety, your best bet is to look at professionally built cages and make sure yours has a similar design just to be sure it works in a rollover. I like this one

Yes, I will be TIG welding with My TIG. My coworker is letting me use is hydrolic tubing bender. I will be picking up the tubing sometime next week. I'm just trying to finalize the setup before I go ahead with the building.

Now I'm out there removing the seam sealer and I'm going to then seam weld everything before I have the cage in my way.

Are you going to weld or bolt it to the tunnel? Will the body still be able to be removed from the frame without cutting the cage?

Now that's a slick idea, using tape to get a rough idea of the location of the cage. Looks good. My only suggestion is to use some kind of tubing notcher. Fit-up can be just as important as the welds.
Nice looking car. :righton: PS. I go to school for welding.

That tape looks pretty strong all by itself I'd say. If you just use duct tape, with all that triangulation I think it will work great! JK, you're off to a great start, keep us posted.

Also I have ditched the 4130 Chromoly tubing for some standard DOM tubing for construction reasons. |
