Are black rims the in thing right now?

I've been running black rims on my white 914 for over a year now. When I got the car three rims were silver and one was white, so I decided to try black, and sure enough it worked for that car. Nobody was running black rims, now i see them all over the place. Today I saw a white toyota taccoma running them, geez. It makes me want to paint them brite yellow so that i can be different. I think I'll just flare the fenders and put some cup 2 17's on the 914 , that will make me stand out a lil. I just needed to vent.

Black rims look good on some cars but lately alot of the ricers have been spray painting their steelies instead of buying aluminum rims. They make the "blacked out look" a bad thing...

In my opinion there isnt any point on buying black rims since their lines arent so obvious as in alu or polished ones... so either way why painting your's black???

I painted mine black, cause they are only the stock steel star wheels. On 914's the bumpers, targa top, roll bar, front/rear vallances, side skirts, original Porsche side stickers and rear badges are all black. On a white 914 the black rims add even more contrast, kind of it looks so ugly that it now looks good sort of look. But it seems like everyone and their sister are running black rims, and thats what I'm bothered by. Eventually I'll give the GL treatment to my 14 but till then the black star wheels will have to do.

Black really is the new black !

IMHO black rims look very cool and very stealth.... alloys that is. Not so keen on stockers, whatever the colour.

All black I'm not so sure about, but the center done and a silver/polished lip looks awesome... but then again, I am partial since I did do mine with charcoal centers .

only on porsches..or VW's that are done right...i like the "TechArt" rims in black....seen a couple of "Cup" rims done in black...heavily considering doing my rims in black to go with the overall theme of my car.

Yes, the show winning early squareback of Brian Burrows (article in Volksworld) has black carbon plated porsche turbo rims. Very high tech (as the rest of the car (tuned 993 RS engine in the back).

Much more simple; Original Fuchs with the black centers (now on my square )

black rims are cool on the right car and with the right rims. i initially had a set for my bug and had to swap because once on the car, it just didn't look that good. i think they look best with bright colored cars. side note, black rims on the ricers has been pretty big here for a year or two. they just started the stealth steelies though and that looks tremendously stupid on a Honduh. i can see where it would work on a 914 though. especially a white one. can you post a pic?

I'll try and get some pics this weekend. A year ago it was just my friends black Mustang with black Cobra rims then my 14, now it seems like every swinging **** out here has either the hub caps off on thier honda or they painted their alloy's black.

The Porsche Guys in my town talk down on kits like that, but if I had the cheddar laying around I'd do it. The 914-6 GT flares look kind of too square anyways. I am the only guy in Auburn who drove a 914 daily (except for the guy with the black 914-6 3.1L) so I am different, but when it comes to black rims see more and more cars everyday sporting them. I still need to come up with some pics.
