Clean '86 951

GermanLook.com guys get first dibs!

I finally decided to put my 951 up for sale. I have waffled for a couple of months, but I am just ready for a change (I go through this every 2 years or so with my daily driver) and with the wife's recent career change (self-employment), I am going to go to something I can work on more and has less chance of a major bill if something major does go wrong. Many of the VKG guys have seen it and can vouch for the quality. Here are the details:

Overview:
1986 944 Turbo
153,000 miles
I would rank it a strong 7 (probably even an 8) out of 10
  • Silver Blue with Tan cloth interior
  • Stock PhoneDials (refinished about 3 years ago)
  • Strong runner (the power in a 951 really impressed me)
  • Has been a solid daily driver for the almost 2 years I have had it
  • Only mods are Authority Stage 2 chip and door speaker boxes (see pics)

Recent (last month) work done includes:
  • All fluids changed
  • All filters changed
  • All belts changed (timing included)
  • Motor mounts
  • Tie Rod End
  • Cam belt roller and tensioner
  • Also replaced the battery in June
  • Heater control valve last year

Previous owner work worthy of note:
  • Wheels refinished 3/6/01
  • Waterpump 7/18/01
  • Right control arm 9/14/01
  • A/C compressor 9/18/01 (A/C cools VERY well which was a prime requirement for me in purchasing)
  • Belts serveral times on schedule
  • Nose replaced after slight driveway ding (this happened right before I purchased so I dealt with the replacement and know it was done right)

I have not autocrossed or tracked it in anyway. But even for daily driving, the power and handling is just a blast. I did all of the normal maintenance on schedule and probably babied the car more than anything. All of my records and the PO are included. There were none available for earlier than that.

The paint is in great shape with the only exception being peeling at the rear stone guard area (will get pics up soon on it). Interior is in great shape as well. Two slight wears on drivers seat. Passenger and rear are fine. I just reglued some small sections of headliner so it is back to fantastic shape. Cocoa mats are included.

Only bad points of note:
  • The paint at the stone guards as noted above
  • 1" scrape at right front near headlight due to road debris (will get pic)
  • Rear defrost doesn't work (could just be fuse and I will check)
  • Very slight power steering fluid leak
  • Odometer stopped working (speedo is fine) first of June. It stopped at 147k, but I have very predictable driving so know I am at about 153k now.

Asking $8700

Will consider even and uneven trades (must be local so I can see the car) for GOOD examples (must be 8 out of 10 or better) of the following:
  • Oval
  • 73-79 Super Vert (stock or custom)
  • Mk1 GTI or Vert
  • Mk2 GTI or Vert
  • Mk3 GTI or Vert
  • Corrado (VR6 only)

Feel free to email me with any questions at zen@volksport.net.

Here are some pics taken when I bought it and one more recent (it has been raining too much for me to get current pics, but will get some shortly). The one with it next to the truck shows the new nose.

We have had friends with 944 turbos, and they are very fun to drive... great track cars that make daily drivers (or is it the other way around?)

Wish i had the money... looks very nice!

thanks guys. it really is a fantastic car. best of both worlds (sport and daily ergonomics). as much as i love 911s, these really make better dailys. gobs of power too. i've had some interested parties, so maybe something will come through. i'm in no hurry though. tough time to sell a car.
