Power to the ground...motor weights.

I'm deciding on a performance motor right now and i'm look for the lightest motor with most output. I'm shooting for 300 hp on stock internals then upgrading to race rods, pistons, cam (or cams), lifters, valves... you get the idea, but i don't want to worry about the block or crank. Eventually 500 hp.
Talking to outback motors (subaru), they claim their motors are extremely light for how much power you get, but i still don't know how much they weigh. I'm one of those guys who has to have more than just enough. I don't like the idea of $3,000 for the block, crank and pistons (required for power over 300 hp).
Rotary's on the other hand are very heavy for their compact size. and also extremly loud but how much power can they handle stock...reliably?
Another option would be the sr20det nissan Inline 4. 400 hp on stock internals then 1000 bucks for rods, 1000 bucks for pistons, 800 bucks for cams, 500 bucks for valves, and the list goes on.
Ecotec is what i'm interested in right now until someone persuades me otherwise. GM has a step by step guide on how to do everything, what parts exactly (with part numbers, no guessing!), depending on how much power you want. Stock to 250 hp, 250 to 400 hp, 400 to 600 hp, 600 to 1000 hp, and 1000 hp to 1400 hp.I like the idea of updoing everything besides the internals on the motor, turn up the boost and see how much power the motor can handle, and if you throw a rod or explode your motor, its only 300 dollars and a weekend to replace it.
Lastly, the supra motors are extremely potent, but i don't think anyone has shoehorned an inline six in any of our humble beetles.
Back to the question at hand, motor weights, anyone know the weights of these differant motors, because what is the use of haveing 300 hp in a 1800 pound car if you can't put it on the ground. All motor styles welcome.

I don't have any knowledge on other brands but my Subaru EJ20 TT is 121 kilograms so that's 32kg more than the stock type 1 (89kg)

The sr20det seems to be the next runner up to the ecotec since the turbo parts are so readily available. To a point, tuning can only go so far, until the internals explode and then you need a new case or whatnot. The ONLY thing i don't like about the ecotec is that it's not german... but none of these other choices are either.

I am going ecotec, I really enjoy being able to know that I will have a spare one on hand at all times seeing that they are only about 300 for a spare, however I think I may go even newer ad test out the Le5 2.4 engine.

Hi

Any motor other than a flat 4 introduces fitting and handling issues.

If choosing the best bank for buck in line 4, I would go for a Mitsubishi EVO motor.
