2165 Type 4 rod suggestions

I'm building a 78 x 94mm engine using crank from Aircooled.net and 94B type 1 pistons..

I'm getting a split duration 163/86B on reduced base circle with 112 lobe center. This is for better daily driver drivability (no screaming it constantly) and better idle. Not to mention I can run a turbo in the future easier. probably running 42X36 or 37 valves and heads ported as far as can be without welding.

This engine should make 170 or so hp MAX and about 220 for turbo, min.

It was suggested that I run H beam rods. I have seen what scat has to offer, and it looks a little rough.. I haven't actually mic'd them out. I also heard that Bugpack bought the remaining stock of Carillo rods. Should I get the bugpack H-Beams in the 5.4" length?
Thanks for your help guys!

...

I would go with these, sounds good, if the rods are REALLY from Carillo. If not, you can go with the CB or Scat rods, too.

170HP would be a bit much, think of 150-155HP, then you're on the safe side.

Thumbs up

Thats the thing, I believe the Carillo thing only applies to the Chevy journal rods, but from what I've seen in pictures they look pretty nice... You never know until they're in your hands. hopefully my local shop has a set I can inspect before I order mine (they probably won't have them in stock).

Best reguards,
Bobby
