Lambo doors

Would verticle doors be possible on a bug? I think it would be pretty cool. wondering if it would be a possible/feasible mod.

There are serious issues with this. Please search over at shoptalkforums.com as there is a very informative thread about this topic there.

It's not that it can't be done, it's just not very advisable.

As they say... with a big enough hammer, hot enough torch, and fat enough wallet... anything is possible. Seriously though, you'd be better doing gull-wing doors with the Bug body.

There was a famous street rod built out of a Studebaker called "Frankenstude" that had some of the trickest scissor doors I have ever seen. They pivoted at the rear lower corner instead of the front upper but the effect was the same. There was some serious engineering involved to make them pop out a foot then rotate up. It was all billet with roller bearings and trick stops and gas assist... you do not want to go there unless you have some serious fabricating ability or lots and lots of cash to have it done.
BUT, what Super says is definately within the grasp of us mortals... I have often day-dreamed myself about how to make gullwing doors work and think these could be done in a home shop.
If anybody (starmember) is doing something like this, we would LOVE to see some pics of how...

Jeff.
