a decent price is $1500 without body work.

I Paid $2000 for rust work and another $1000 for some custom work

Recently I have gotten a few quotes all around $1500 if the car doesnt
need any body work.

I paid $1000. That did not include body work. Depends on where you go and what you're having it sprayed with.

Arrow

I paid $1200 + materials for my Ghia, not a lot of body work, but some. That's cheap for the kind of job he does, But concidering the guy is lazy and he might stop painting my Ghia because he's lazy and says he can't get it finished. It might cost more.

That's all I've had painted.

Good luck.

I'm getting it done atm...

I'm paying $1640.00

As far as I can see it is going really well...The hood looks immaculate and the bumper holes in the fenders look like they never existed and the spot where they were is as smooth as silk.
I will be looking at another two weeks as there is a lot of body work still involved, but the price is lookung very fair and so is the work,,,we'll see...don't want to count the chickens as they say.

GOt some update pics I will post soon.

I just got a quote on painting my '69 Beetle for $3,500 (on the high side), which includes stripping it down to bare metal, blocking out the entire body, shooting all visible painted surfaces inside and out, and re-hanging/aligning the doors. This is coming from a shop that just finished painting an original owner '67 Shelby Mustang that appraised for over $150K at Barrett-Jackson , so I feel pretty good about having them paint mine . To give you an idea of what they are starting with, the car is gutted to the shell and there is no rust or significant body work required. I'm running CCC fiberglass fenders, hood and decklid so that cut down on some of the prep time. Pictures of it are in the "Project" section of my website.

I know that the question was related to paid service rather than a DIY job, but I just thought it could make an interesting comparison for you. These are the costs for materials/equipment I paid for my paint job. I did all rust repairs, panel beating and painting so paid nothing for labour....and let me tell you to have a job done properly there is a lot of hours involved, so paying $3000 for a paint job is not bad if it is done right. The costs are all in Australian dollars, and not in any particular order.

Materials:
Etch primer 1L $29
1L wash primer $54
1L 1K primer $54.10
Metal plastic x-fine filler $19.80
2K tech putty 4kg $45.65
2K clear 1L $32.00
2K reducer 1L $13.20
Fast hardener 1L $36.00
2K normal hardener 1L $30.00
2K clear 1L $32.00
Gunwash 20L $35.00
500ml base coat $55.00
Acrylic thinner $12.80
Car joint seam sealer $26.40
Polyester putty 900g $14.00
Blade putty 450g $12.50
Base coat 1L $100.00
2K high build primer $116.00
Farecla G3 compound 400g $23.20
Meguiars tech wax $43.00
Farecla G4 liquid 1L $65.85
8in compound pad x2 $73.00
8in polishing pad x2 $61.00
2K clear 1L $32.00
6L basecoat $540.00
5L clearcoat $210.00
Medium hardener $140.00
Universal reducer $45.00
Stone chip addagel $50.00

Equipment etc:
Gravity gun stand $30.00
Plastic paint cups $15.00
Gravity feed gun $240.00
Misc other sanding blocks $36.00
Gun cleaning set $18.00
Gravity feed gun (for primer) $150.00
Paint filters $3.00
Tack rags $9.00
Masking tape $50.00
Mask (filter) $95.00
Gloves (2 boxes of 100) $26.40
Sandpaper $40.00
Lge rubbing block $17.85

$2770.75 all inclusive (or $2040.50 minus equipment etc)
Labour $0 (thats the part I like)

Please note that not all the above paint, clearcoat, primer etc was not used solely on the body...I used some on things like clearcoating rollcage, painting suspension components etc etc....so that is why there are double and triple ups of stuff.

Cheers
Alan
