sucessfull CRX "coil over" use.
Has anyone sucessfully used a Crx or honda aftermarket spring in place of a Maxx Strut? I am very close to installing my porsche Cup II's and 944NA brakes, and I am fiddling with crx springs on my 1302. However, I am running into problems. If someone could post a picture of their sucessfull conversion that would help immensly.
Thanks, Nick |

So what I have together thus far is the Adjust-a-strut with the bottom spring perch cut off (leaving just a small sleeve on the strut housing) that the New spring perch (Al, from the coil over kit) rests on then the spring, top perch and top bearing. The problem is that with the strut adjusted as high as possible, the strut assembly is too short, making the car too low for my cup IIs. - What I really need to see is if people have used the generic coil over kits like the one I have, AND if they used a stock strut housing, or an adjust-a-strut as a base for the conversion. My other option is to use the STOCK strut housings and shorten them to use a MK1 Golf strut insert (like the adjust a struts) then use the aluminum threaded sleeves that came with the "coil over" kit for adjustability. I am able to use the sleeves in this instance because the stock struts have a smaller diameter housing. The main goal of this headache is to have a height/corner weight adjustable front suspension with a readily availabe variety of different stiffness springs, and not pay $500 for something I can make. I used parts from the factory rear struts. Taking it apart you are going to use the spring, rubber spring cups (which are at the top), and the spring perch, which separates from the factory strut at the bottom of the spring.
So now, with these 3 parts, place the rubber ring, on the bottom adjust-a-strut perch. The metal bottom perch now will become your top perch. You weld this to the beetle top spring plate/retainer. You can weld this on a offset biased to the middle of the car for more tire clearance. You have to make sure everything is clear for the damper rod to pass through. hope this is clear. I'll try to get under the car tommorrow for some pics.

Oh, i see. It sounds like you used stock rear CRX parts, and I thought I could get away with using one of these kits.
perhaps I should just purchase a taller set of springs. Pics would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks, Nick |
