wheel adapters
i know everybody frowns upon it hear but im trying to go the cheapest rout i can right now. i need an adapeter froma a vw 4 lug to a a 4 lug 4 x100 pattern and i need it to be 35 mm thick i need 4 of them. anybody know where i can get one?

Cheap? It's not going to happen. You are talking about special adapters which aren't massed produced. Good ones like H&R aren't cheap either.
One thing to keep in mind is the size of the center bore. On a water-cooled VW with a 4x100 or a 5x100 bolt pattern, the center bore is 57.1mm. The hub on your wheel may be larger than that. Mine was. That may be necessary to know when ordering. I used http://www.wheeladapter.com/ for my 6mm front spacers. Since the hub stuck out more than the 6mm I needed, I did not need a hubcentric spacer. Yours will be more involved and hubcentric is highly recommended ... and more expensive. Another company which was highly touted is http://www.motorsport-tech.com/adapters.htm. I'm not sure if they do custom work but as their Web site says, "Just ask." |

I can make custom adaptors, in any wheel pilot size you require. They won't be cheap though, about $C100ea, from solid billet aluminum.

Just to back up whats already been posted...
I've used adapters and spacers, billet is a must! Properly used, they are not dangerous in any way. A lot of stories floating around that are B.S., the old cast adapters were crap and I've even got a set of wide five-to-chevy that are stamped sheet metal! Absolute junk but useful if you needed to put some roller wheels on. You will not beat Lanner's price (or quality) unless you stumbled on some already made (used) that someone was trying to unload, which is highly unlikely. Jeff-

One final thought is that I have just completed installation of 17's on my 72 Super. For the rear drums, I had them redrilled (correctly) with studs and related maching to make them right. I had this done for about $140 US total, not including cost of the drums.
If you want to go for adapters, $100 each Canadian is a deal. One more thing, Lanners work = Top quality. I purchased the skinny coils set from Lanner which allowed me to install 215\45 on the front of my beetle. Great Quality! |
