Cam replacement
I was wandering if it is necessary to split the case on a type 1 to switch cams, or if it was done in a similar manner to switching a cam on a old domestic like 350 Chevy or 302 Ford? The reason I am asking is due to my need to get a cam that will take some of the strain off my stock 1600. I use my car for work and frequently have to transport two other men to and from work. I live in a very hilly city and have to try and grab as much speed as I can before hitting the hills. I was wandering if anyone has any expierence with either aircooled.net's split duration cams ( as I do not have Kadrons back yet) or maybe an early bus cam, early busses did use a similar engine didn't they?. If anyone could help me I would thankful, Ryan

If you are sure its a stock cam, then use 1.4 ratio rocker arms. This will give you increased lift = more air = more power . To change the cam you have to split the case on type I and type IV motors .

Thanks for the advice Wrench. I will be much happier not having to pull the block at this point in time. You got a favorite rocker supplier?

I've used Scat 1.4 kit. Autocraft makes a good set. Of course there's always Bugpack. Cb Performance has a set, and Pauter Machine has billet rollers in different ratios . You might want to change Valve springs, and check your pushrods to. All this can be done with motor in the car.

I'll probably replace the push rods with chrome moly guys and upgrade to HD springs at the same time. Of the suppliers that you mentioned which is going to be the best for the cost/quality ?

I think Autocraft is the cheapest and have been around a while, about $150 for a set. EMPI has a set about the same price, but I've never heard anything good about them so I didn't say anything about them in my last post. Scat is about the middle of the price range $229 a set. Pauter is over $500 I think. Ask around, some other opinions will help.

Thanks for the info Wrench. Will look into both the Scat and Autocraft.
