Tire widths

Hi all , I have been lurking on the forum for a while but this is my first post. I have 15x6 and 15x7 fuchs replicas, my bug is a 76 standard with ghia discs up front and dropped spindles, back spacing on the wheels are 5 inches. It is time for tires and I want to make sure I get what fits! I would like to run 50 series on all 4 or 55s up front with 50s in the back .Any advice is appreciated. I would like to keep the front fenders stock,as for the rears I could go with glass. How wide can I go?

Tire widths

What? nobody knows if I can put say a 205 55 15 on the front or 185 55 15 or a 195 55 15 on the front with a 6 inch rim ? Or a205 50 15 or a 215 50 15 or maybe a 225 50 15 on the rear with a 7 inch rim? And maybe keep the stock rear fenders?

I have 195/50-16 tires on the front and 205/55-16 tires on the back. My wheels are 6½ inches in width. I have a 1971 Super Beetle currently with stock fenders. I don't know what one can take from that in comparison with a 1976 standard, however.

Thanks for the imput, I just want to run as wide a tire as possible with out cutting my beam. I have heard of guys running 205/55s on the front but most have been 17" rims. For the rear I need to know how wide a tire I can stuff in the stock fenders with out too many headaches 7",8", 9".....????Thanks again. JB. (again rims are 6s front 7s rear)

I don't know if there are any differences between a '71 Super and a '76 standard with regards to stock rear fenders. Therefore, I can't imagine any problems using a 7-inch rim back there, and using 225's may be possible as well.

Again, I have a 6½-inch rim (et52) but I also have 8mm spacers. It may be determined by the offset you are using.

I spent a fair amount of time underneath my car measuring and dusting off some old math skills. I was 97% successful in the end. (I may try for that last 3% in the next 12 months. )
