Winterfication??

I need some help, this is the first winter my Ghia has it's Subaru engine.

What can I do to get it ready for winter? the water lines are not yet installed. Should I plug the hoses and fill the engine with antifreeze? or is there a way to make sure there is no water in it?

Thanks,

Hey Mike,

How are things going ?

You're asking a good question, to be honest, I haven't really thought about that. I have 2 Subaru motors sitting in my garage, one in the Beetle, and one on the floor.
They have gone through winters without any fluids in them, and I'm not sure there really is anything you would need to do.

The only thing you have to be sure off is that there is no water in the block, antifreeze should be no problem (I think), but for sure no water...

I'm not sure if you can crank it already, but one Idea could be to pour some antifreeze in the motor and then crank it over so it gets distributed a bit...

Rob.

Things have been good, you?

I have been working on my Ghia, but only a little here and there. My mother has been sick lately so it's hard to get away. And it's hard to get away from my girlfriend too.

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't have done a thing, but Tim brought it up. My options are to drain it completely, fill it, or put it in the shop. We have a part of the shop with constant heat, and another part we just heat when we're working. He said the part we work in doesn't get cold enough to freeze, but I'd rather not bet $1,000 on it. It'll be a good amount of working getting it into our heated shop, but I think that's the route I should take.
