Happy B-day Marines

Got home and figured someone would beat me to the punch..

To all the Marines on the Board,

Happy Birthday.. We are 229 Years old..

2004 Marine Corps Birthday Message from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
Marine Corps News
November 09, 2004

WASHINGTON - Happy 229th Birthday to the United States Marine Corps. Marines have built a legacy of warfighting excellence that has endured throughout our Nation's history — a history that continues to be written every day around the globe. The word "Marine" continues to inspire fear in our enemies, hope for those in need, and trust on the part of our allies.

The Marine Corps' warrior spirit and leadership excellence are its hallmarks. Over the past year, I have had the opportunity to visit Marines who exemplify these honorable traits while bravely serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa, the Western Pacific and other places far from home. What impressed me most is your courage, your professionalism, and your determination to prevail against those who threaten peace and freedom. The men and women of the Marine Corps clearly represent the best in American values.

On behalf of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, I salute the efforts of the proud Marines serving today and those who served before. The world is safer today because generations of Marines have been and continue to be willing to serve and sacrifice for our country. Semper Fidelis.

Gen. Richard B. Myers, Gen. USAF

Feeling a little Nostolgic, but what can I say once a marine, always a Marine..
As other members have stated (Jake and others..) best time of our lives.. now the legacy is continues with those over seas, and those going thru recruit training as we speak... Its rough over there, and my prayers go out to those marines.. Happy B-day..
Alex

Once upon a time the Marine Corp was a part of the Department of the Navy, so that would make me a cousins or half brothers or something. I salute all the past and especially present day Marines for all the sacrifices so that I can sleep good at night.

Click this link...

...and then select Marine Corps on the left frame. It says Department of the Navy. I've never heard of the Department of the Marine Corps.

Does the Commandant of the Marine Corps report to the Secretary of the Navy, or the Chief of Naval Operations?

James I may be mistaken but I heard a couple of years ago the Marines split away from the Navy, I guess I should stop believing everything I heard and do some of my own research.

I'm active duty in the Navy right now, and I will absolutely, positively confirm reports that the Marines are still part of the Navy. I was a Seabee, worked with them everyday. Now I'm in a commissioning program with sailors and Marines.

I've never seen a finer group. What the Marines do is absolutely amazing. We are all very fortunate to have them. Let's also remember the sacrifices they make everyday. I hope they all come home.

Semper Fi and Happy Birthday!

I just got back from our local Veteran's Day ceremony and I asked an E9 Marine. He said that the Commandant of the Marine Corps reports to the Secretary of the Navy and that USN is on his check.

I (We) should honor/salute all services

BTW, today is also the day that WW I ended.
