901 swap Q
the shift rod part of the conversion has always made me feel a little unsure about the conversion.
Most or all of the conversion things ive read for this swap mention bending/welding/lengthening the shift rod etc. But if its bent, i dont see how it turns the shaft on the tranny???(the side to side motion on the shift pattern, the neutral area)the clockwise/countercw motion of the shaft. i would think there would be a necessity for 2 couplers or u joints at the bends in order to keep a smooth shifting tranny. but, if theres 2, then you wont be able to shift, the joints will just flex. The only way i can think to correct this is to Not bend the shaft, but instead angle the whole shaft, but im not sure how much it would affect shifting. heres a quick sketch of what i mean about the bent rods u can easily see that the wide angle the bent rod swings at vs the stock one. heres a sketch that shows angling the whole rod any input/suggestions appreciated. -Ryan
