Not sure if it is a bad idea, or a god one!? Two things that come to mind is what are the Torque figures on such a motor, and how to reliably get the drive from the motor to the Bug axles/gearbox.

i have seen this done in a fiat 500. the only problem is that the torque on the motor is to little so you will sacrifice accelration i think you culd go just as fast with that 2k by just keeeping it vw

Thumbs up

Chris.....

tubframe.....mid engine Hayabusa with 6sp sequential gear box (reverse might be a problem ;-) )....light weight parts for the bug....15 or 16" lightweight rims....
Sounds like an awesome plan for a track/motorcross/street car. You will spend a lot of money for a go fast Typ1 and even more for a go fast Type 4 enigne. You might want to contact Z- Cars in the UK to get some ideas....as they do a lot of motorcycle engine conversions.

I think it is something that should be considered.

^^just buy thier tranny, mount engine in backseat area, & run radiator by decklid w/special ducting. Drag racers have gotten over 500hp out of these engines on thier bikes by using turbos.
