Late Ghia gearing

UK spec Ghia's Post 1970 still have Swing axle boxes, but have a higher top gear than equivalent 1300s / GT or 1303s box, (I have been told). More like a 1500 final drive on the high ratiod ring and pinion (3.88?)

I beleive that their will be limitations of what I can achieve witht he swing axle set up with regards to handling and trying to get my car round a track quick. Ideally I would like at some point too upgrade to IRS such as the US spec Ghia of simular vintage utalised. . . what gearing is found on these late US spec Ghias?

Also would I be better off seeking a donor US spec Ghia chassis, or DIY an IRS conversion usng possibly Porsche parts. I am limited with the width though, due to Ghia wheel arches!

Any suggestions / thoughts truly appreciated!

Instead of waiting for a bunch of guesses here, why not crawl under your Ghia and read off the trans code? It is located forward of the diff on the right lower side on a raised pad. Scrape away the gunk.
