ive just joined german look

Hello
jimby here

ive just registered on here cos im building my oval for the 2005 Aircooled cup in the UK.

here is the spec of my car now
1956 oval, rhd.
original pan, wings, doors, bonnet, lights, side and rear glass and running boards.

stripped out interior, safety devices 6 point cage. pair of sparco ultra seats. sparco steering wheel. 4 point luke 3" harnesses. everyting black! monster tach, oil temp and voltage vdo. dash fusebox. AFFF fire extinguisher.

1300 gearbox, long axles. original front brakes, late rear 4 stud drums. 356 wheels, 195 55 R15 yokohama advan A048R medium compound race tyres on the rear and bridgestone B340 175 55R15 fronts. koni red adjustable shocks, stock front anti roll bar. solid mount gearbox with frame fork braced to inner wings. 12v. laminate RAC front glass.

no engine

so im going to race it in the 2005 Aircooled Cup in England, starting at Brands Hatch on the 2nd of April.

ive got planned

ive just aquired an 1800 type4 engine.
im cutting the rear valance off very far up. fitting pattern parts wings, bonnet and fibreglass decklid. changing the side and rear glass to perspex. changing the running boards and lights to cheaper ones. doing a disc brake conversion on the front using link pins, disc brakes drilled to 4x100 or 5x112 with stud and nuts. stock calipers, dual circuit master cylinder. drums on the back drilled to the same. aluminium foam filled fuel tank. changing the doors to ones with perspex instead of glass with no winders but a hole cut out to get fresh air in. a belly pan under the full length of the car in 4mm plywood. 6" x 15" stock steel wheels off a modern car with the yoko A048R tyres all round, medium compound rear - super soft fronts.

ive only got three months to do it in, including my first build of a type4 engine so if anyone can lend an interlectual hand and advise me where they can if they have one any of the things on my list so i can save time and money doing it id be very appreciative

Its taken me just over a year to build my type 4 engine! I could have gone a little quicker though... Best of luck with it. Hope to see you on the track one day.. I am hoping for 2006, though may be on the track near the end of the season...

Jimby,
Could you inform us on the regulations of the 'Aircooled-Cup'?
Sounds like a Kaefer Cup rebirth, or at least I hope so

Best regards,
Walter

Walter, this race series is run under SEMSEC regs for the South East Sports & Saloon Challenge. See http://www.semsec.org.uk for more info on SEMSEC and FastTrack Dub Club for more info on the beetle side of things, including provisional dates.

Thanks Chris, but the first is very general and the other link is a yahoo group you have to subscibe to read the forum.
I really can't find any specific info on the beetle racing without spending half a day reading it all (considering I will find the info I was looking for).

Could you give me a short summery of the class rules?
Like what engines may be run and how stock the body must be?

I hope it isn't like the Fun Cup in France, which run a tube frame with fibreglass beetle-like body and Golf (Rabbit) engines...

I would also to know how many beetles averagely run in one race and if it is beetle only or if other 'youngtimers' run in the same race.

Thanks in advance,
Walter

Here are the regulations, its a PDF doc:

http://www.semsec.org.uk/downloads/2004/SEChall04.pdf
It looks wordy, but the information is there.

Note that its not a beetle specific series, but as a result of various people trying to organise beetle racing in the UK. Its a bit like the old Beetle Cup that used to run in the UK up to a few years ago, but with other cars on the track too.

Its not like the fun cup at all, the regulations allow for beetles of all types and engine sizes. Also unlike the Beetle Cup, supers are allowed to compete. Most of the bugs that ran last year are old Beetle Cup cars..

Last year there were a few beetles racing, this year there will be more, hopefully.

The FastTrack Dub Club was created to bring beetle racing enthusiast in the UK together, you are free to join up if you wish, and read the archives..

The Yahoo Group is where most of the people

Man ... wish there was some beetle racing on this side of the Pond.

PLEASE share your experiences with those of us not fortunate enough to enjoy racing in a beetle series :haveadrin

Snott,

I noticed you have a torsion beam front suspension ... PLEASE let us know how it is working for you.

Good luck to all of you !

Sandeep
